🌸 Spring Say & Play
Speech & Language Ideas for Springtime Fun
Spring is a wonderful time to encourage children to talk, explore, and play. Longer days, warmer weather, and exciting holidays like Spring Break and Easter provide natural opportunities to build language skills during everyday activities.
Below are some easy ways to support your child’s speech and language development this spring.
🌷 Spring Break Say & Play Ideas
Spring break is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy simple activities that encourage conversation.
Nature Walk & Talk
Take a walk and encourage your child to notice and describe things.
Try asking:
What do you see? Use the narration from the book ‘Brown Bear.’
For example, Lookie, Lookie, what do I see? I see a squirrel in a tree.”
What color is that flower? “I see a red flower, what color is this flower?”
Is the bird big or small?
You can also model new vocabulary:
blooming
buzzing
soft
windy
💡 Speech Tip: Expand what your child says.
Child: “Flower!”
Parent: “Yes! That is a yellow flower.”
Backyard Sound Hunt
Go outside and listen for sounds.
Ask your child:
“What do you hear?”
“Is the bird chirping, peep, peep peep or singing?”
Is the wind loud (blow making noise) or quiet (blow quietly)?
This builds listening skills and vocabulary.
